Willkommen bei der International Sustainability Week der Fachhochschule Südwestfalen
Im Mai 2026 laden wir an der Fachhochschule Südwestfalen zu unserer zweiten Erasmus+ International Sustainability Week ein, in der wir uns mit den Zielen für nachhaltige Entwicklung der Vereinten Nationen (17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)), den globalen Wegweisern für nachhaltiges Handeln, auseinandersetzen.
Gemeinsam mit unseren Partnern bieten wir dieses Jahr zwei fachspezifische "Tracks" als Blended-Learning-Module an:
Track # 1 Engineering
Track # 2 Early Childhood Education (Frühpädagogik)
In der Woche wird der Fokus darauf liegen, was Nachhaltigkeit für uns als Individuen und in unseren verschiedenen Disziplinen bedeuten kann. Im Rahmen von Exkursionen, Laborarbeiten und Gruppenaktivitäten erwerben die Studierenden Kompetenzen für ein nachhaltiges Bewusstsein, basierend auf dem Modell der Inner Development Goals (IDGs). Die angebotenen Module sind auf die Fachbereiche zugeschnitten und werden über die Wahlpflichtkataloge der Studiengängen anerkannt.

Folgende Module/Tracks werden angeboten:
Track #1 - Early Childhood Education (FB Bildungs- und Gesellschaftswissenschaften)
“Kids for Future”- exploring climate change in early childhood
How can we address climate change to children aged 6? Students and lecturers will discuss selected climate change challenges from an international perspective, develop hands-on ideas and create material that motivate children to explore technical issues. You will take these co-created ideas back into your home country and put them into practice with children, discuss with educators and evaluate their feasibility. We will exchange results, experiences and feedback in a follow-up online meeting.
Hydrogen is regarded as one of the most important energy carriers for a sustainable energy supply. In this module, we will discuss the characteristics of hydrogen as well as the advantages and challenges of hydrogen as an energy carrier. We will look into stationary and mobile applications for hydrogen and develop a demonstrator that illustrates the generation and technical use of hydrogen.
Review of the South Westphalia International Sustainability Week
Impressions 2025
Katharina Moser kicked off the first South Westphalia International Sustainability Week by showing how far away we still are from the 2030 targets
Moser's presentation was well received by more than 110 participants from Canada, Finland, Poland, France, Belgium, Lithuania and other countries
Over the course of the week, the students then learned to understand sustainability from an interdisciplinary perspective and implement their inner development goal in five disciplinary Tracks.
Track #1 - Agriculture (FB Agrarwirtschaft) was about sustainability in agricultural land use and food systems.
Track #3: exploring climate change in early childhood
Claudia Henrichwark with Otto Virrkula and Tiia Papilla from University of Jyväskylä, Finland
Track #3 analyzed how sustainability topics could be addressed in Early Childhood Education Centers by focusing on values and non-frightening settings, such as Lego Serious Play, Stop Motion short films, a children’s picture book, and a field trip to the forest kindergarten Möhnesee.
Track #4: engineering – applied smart building systems

Students of Track #4 developed efficient building solutions by practicing “nudgin” in social and technical settings: a) “cut the power – save by the hour” for middle-class households; b) “the game to save energy” targets residents of apartment buildings, aiming to transform energy usage behavior through digital engagement; c) “smart students – smart cities”: aims to create awareness for efficient energy use in primary and secondary schools.
Track #5: engineering – hydrogen as a clean energy carrier

Participants of Track # 5 experimented with hydron as a clean energy source by highlighting the stages of its production from generating hydrogen energy in solar cells and wind turbines, to conversion technologies, to its use (for example, in cars) and to its storage.
Track #6: Management – sustainability of companies
Christian Goldscheid and Andrea Schulte
Students of Track #6 defined corporate sustainability measures in contrast to greenwashing, how corporate sustainability can be measured, explains the concept of the environmental footprint, and developed recommendations for sustainable corporate actions.
