Solidarity with the earthquake victims in Syria and Türkiye

We are daily confronted with the horrible pictures of the consequences of the earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border region. Thousands of people are victims of this catastrophe, are still missing or have lost their homes.

The South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences is also very concerned. Many lecturers, employees and students are in contact with both countries, either personally or as part of academic exchanges.

"Our thoughts and deepest compassion are with the victims and their relatives in Türkiye and Syria, but also with the affected families at our university campuses in Hagen, Iserlohn, Lüdenscheid, Meschede and Soest," underlines Rector Prof. Dr. Claus Schuster. "The desire to help is immense", he adds.

The German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) has prepared a list of reputable organisations that provide aid: https://www.dzi.de/. In addition, the WDR and the German Red Cross, among others, have also launched aid campaigns.
