Scholarships

Who is eligible for funding?

Scholarships are awarded upon application to students enrolled in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree courses at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. First-year students are also eligible to apply.

Applicants must, among other things, fulfil the following requirements:

• The applicant must be able to demonstrate that his/her previous academic performance or examination results indicate that he/she is likely to complete his/her studies successfully.
• The applicant's profile must correspond to the current announced funding focus. Current funding focus: Students enrolled at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences whose personal circumstances make it significantly more difficult for them to take up or continue their studies are eligible for support.
• In the case of the individual scholarship for students in emergency situations, the amount of the scholarship is based on individual need; the scholarship is awarded as emergency aid.

How can I apply for a scholarship?

Applications must be submitted in writing for the winter semester and should be addressed to the Chair of the Executive Board. Further details and the application deadline can be found in the current call for applications.

Applications should include:

• Short report on the status of studies or school education
• Current certificate of enrolment
• Proof of previous academic achievements or examination results (degree certificate or current transcript of records)
• A brief description of the student's particular personal situation and the reasons for the application, including in particular the student's extracurricular or social commitment.
• Description of why it is not possible to finance your studies from your own resources, using the form 'Description of financial situation'. Please enclose bank statements
• Information on whether and, if so, the amount of any scholarship received from another scholarship provider

From the outset, it is an important concern of the Hochschulstiftung to involve the students in the decision-making process regarding the use of the funds. Students therefore have a voice in the foundation's governing bodies, the Board of Trustees and the Executive Board.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees, half of whose members are students of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, advises the Executive Board on the realisation of the Foundation's objectives, in particular on the preparation of guidelines for the awarding of scholarships and on the determination of the annual focus.

Executive Board

The Executive Board must fulfil the desires of the founder as effectively as possible within the framework of the legal provisions. It appoints the members of the Board of Trustees each year in consultation with the selection committee.
According to § 8 (2) of the statutes of the Hochschulstiftung Südwestfalen in its current version of 09.02.2022, the Executive Board elects the Chairperson and the Deputy Chairperson from among its members.
