Advance your career — without pressing pause on it.

Do you want to develop professionally without stepping out of your job to do it? With our university certificates, you take individual modules from an accredited master’s programme at South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences – part-time, online and taught in English.

You build your expertise where the decisions are made today: at the intersection of management, digitalisation and international collaboration. One module runs for a semester, costs 850 euros and concludes with a university certificate and 5 ECTS.

The modules come from the master’s programme „International Management and Information Systems – Online“ (IMIS Online). You take exactly what you need – without committing to a full degree. If you later decide to complete the master’s, modules you have already passed can be credited on application.

Whether International Management, Business Informatics, Business Intelligence, Process Management, Finance, Marketing, Leadership or Digital Product and Project Management: you choose the topics that fit your professional role and your next step.

You study alongside professionals from different industries and countries. The language of instruction is English – the way many companies already work.

Who is this for?

  • Professionals who want to upskill in a focused way alongside work and family
  • Specialists and emerging leaders at the intersection of management, IT and digitalisation
  • International professionals already working in Germany or in international teams

Digital Transformation / Corporate Entrepreneurship & Innovation

This module examines corporate entrepreneurship and innovation as strategic and organizational responses to ongoing digital and technological transformation. Rather than focusing on individual technologies, the course adopts a holistic perspective on how organizations sense opportunities, redefine value creation, and develop entrepreneurial initiatives under conditions of uncertainty. Students critically analyze how innovation emerges from the interaction of strategy, organizational capabilities, leadership, and work practices.

Drawing on current academic research, structured discussions, and case analyses, the module enables students to apply conceptual frameworks to real organizational decision contexts. Particular emphasis is placed on data-informed judgment, the critical reflection on the role of artificial intelligence in innovation processes, and the development of dynamic capabilities within established organizations.

By the end of the module, students are able to assess innovation initiatives not only in terms of technological feasibility, but also with regard to value creation, organizational readiness, and long-term strategic impact.

In the first part of the module, students elaborate the basics of e-commerce and e-business, they discuss the dynamic development of the technological infrastructure and company-specific diffusion of e-business and e-commerce concepts. After covering the conceptual foundations of Information Management and looking at the dynamic development of the relevant socio-technical environment this module focuses on Managing Information, Managing Information Systems, Managing Information and Communication Technologies, and the Management of the Information Management Function. A complete set of process management, process modeling, and process mining will provide the basics of optimizing business. Moreover, a practical project in content management system will enhance the concept of implementing information management knowledge.

Solutions will be discussed in international teams via the e-learning platform Moodle by applying its various tools of electronic co-operation (wikis, tasks, video and electronic material uploads, video conferences, badges etc.). Optional Excel courses are offered to provide a rather homogeneous Excel knowledge in class.

How the programme works

You study largely independent of place and time via our e-learning platform, where course material, assignments and support are all in one place. This is complemented by live online sessions in which you work directly with the lecturers and the other participants. These sessions are scheduled so that they can be combined with a full-time job.

Plan for around 125 hours of work per module across one semester – roughly 5 to 6 hours per week. How much time you actually need depends on your prior knowledge and your learning pace.

On-site attendance is not required for the certificate programme.

Strengthen competencies

Subject knowledge alone no longer carries far enough. The modules are therefore designed so that, alongside the technical content, you develop exactly the competencies that transformation projects call for:

  • critical thinking and the ability to make sense of digital developments rather than chase after them
  • data-based judgement – evaluating figures and analyses, not just producing them
  • communication and collaboration in international, distributed teams
  • process, project and transformation competence
  • responsibility, ethics and sustainability as part of business decisions
  • transfer: you work on questions you can bring in from your own working life

These competencies are not an add-on module – they are integrated into the management, digitalisation and project formats.

Workload, examination & credit transfer

Each module concludes with a combination exam made up of several elements spread across the semester – for example knowledge tests, smaller written assignments, case studies or practical tasks. There is no on-site written exam.

A module comprises 5 ECTS and runs across one teaching period, that is around four months. About 125 hours of work are planned, roughly 5 to 6 hours per week.

Your modules are graded according to the ECTS standard. If you later enrol in the IMIS Online master’s programme and meet its admission requirements, modules you have already completed can be credited on application. Crediting at other universities in the European Higher Education Area is also possible in principle – that decision rests with the university concerned.

Costs & Degree

Berufstätige lächelt in die Kamera.

A module costs 850 euros. This includes the course material, supervision by the lecturers, access to the learning platform and the examination. No further fees apply.

Many employers contribute to the costs. If you’d like to discuss this with your company, you’ll find the relevant information and documents on our page for HR and managers.

After the successful completion of a module, you will be issued a certificate of further training from the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. If an examination is assessed as insufficient, you will be issued a certificate of participation, provided you have worked on at least 75 percent of the contents and participated in at least 75 percent of the synchronous course elements.

The further training certificate includes the exact name of the completed module, the number of ECTS credits obtained as well as the examination grade of the module and is issued in both English and German. The credits achieved can be transferred on application to the study course "International Management and Information Systems - Online" if you meet the admission requirements (as well as to other study courses at accredited universities in the European higher education area).
