Looking for accommodation during your studies at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences? There are various accommodation options available at all university campuses.
Student Residence Halls
Student residence halls are available at the different campuses of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. These are operated by the Studierendenwerk Dortmund as well as other accommodation providers. Applications for rooms in the Studierendenwerk Dortmund residence halls are handled exclusively by the Studierendenwerk. Private Accommodation
In addition to student residence halls, you can also search for private apartments, studios or shared flats (WGs) through various online property portals. If you need accommodation at short notice, a holiday apartment or a furnished apartment may be a suitable temporary solution.
Rental Costs and Terminology
Rental costs vary depending on the campus location, the size of the accommodation and its facilities. When searching for accommodation in Germany, you will often come across the following rental terms:
• Cold rent (Kaltmiete): The basic monthly rent excluding additional costs such as heating, water, waste collection and other utility charges.
• Warm rent (Warmmiete): The basic monthly rent including most additional costs. Depending on the tenancy agreement, utilities such as electricity or internet may still be charged separately.
Be sure to check what is included in the rent before signing a tenancy agreement. You should also find out whether the accommodation is furnished and what facilities are provided, such as internet access, kitchen equipment or bedding, as this can affect your overall living costs.
