COVID-19 – Detecting chains of infection more quickly
As from 12 of April, all employees, students and guests of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences will have access to a digital solution for recording presence times at the university with a function for tracking COVID-19 provided by UniNow GmbH. All target groups are recorded in one system. In the case of an infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the chains of contact can be immediately identified; data can be set up and forwarded to the health authority. This makes check-in and check-out as well as the evaluation of data in case of infection much easier and more effective.
When entering the university, you will in future be able to submit the required data easily, conveniently and quickly with your mobile device by scanning a QR code. There is no need to fill in attendance cards. After the first use, you can store the data on your mobile device and use it the next time you come to the university. Data can be submitted via a website or the UniNow app. The app is available in German and English.
Data collection serves exclusively to protect against infection and is subject to relevant data security aspects. Asymmetric encryption is used to store data securely on the system and only the person analysing the data can access these in the case of infection. The collected data is deleted after four weeks in accordance with the Corona Protection Regulations. The app is certified by TÜV Süd since 2017 and passes an annual re-audit for the areas of data protection, data security, quality and functionality.
As a first step, the existing boxes for collecting attendance cards at all sites will be equipped with the QR code and instructions. Additional functions, such as tracking during exams and lectures are to be added at a later stage.
Tracking of COVID-19 is carried out by the provider UniNow GmbH in Magdeburg. The company also operates the UniNow app. More than 300,000 students at around 800 universities already use this app to organise their everyday university life. UniNow bundles all the important information, whether it's news from the campus in the News Feed, exam results and emails, borrowing and renewing books, canteen or timetables. The integrated career portal also offers direct contact to companies.
