Soest

Overview

Master Course System Engineering and Engineering Management

The Soest Division of South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences offers a modular postgraduate course in Systems Engineering and Engineering Management that has been accredited in 2008. The course includes three pathways:

  • Electronic Systems
  • Mechatronic Systems
  • Mechanical Systems.

This course extends the structure of the previous course Electronic Systems and Engineering Management that has been offered since 1998.

Location

All lessons take place in Soest/Germany. The University Division of Soest is a rather small but efficient unit. Consequently, students enjoy a very close supervision by their professors with whom they practice an almost family-like relationship.

Duration

The entire course can be completed within three semesters. The first two semester contain in total eight taught modules. The final master thesis can be started two months prior to the start of the 3rd semester, so that the full course can be completed in even less than three semesters.

Beginning of course

The course can be started either in Summer term (March/April) or winter term (September/October), depending on the need of the prospective student. The course has an intake each semester.

Double Degree

The course offers a dual award option in cooperation with the University of Bolton (UK). Students going for the dual award will study the course at University of Bolton as well as South Westphalia University, staying for at least one semester at each university.

Tuition fees and expenses

Universities in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia do not demand tuition fees, only an administrative fee of about 290,- euros (including public transport ticket).
If, however, the bi-national (German and British) degree is required, University of Bolton would collect an aditional registration fee. This fee is significantly smaller compared to tuition fees usually to be paid in UK.
Average cost of living in Soest is approximately 600 Euro per month, including accommodation. For the 18 months course duration, 10,800 Euro for living expenses are to be calculated.

Job Opportunities

Job opportunities cannot be assured to prospective students. Participants generally have to verify that they can bear the costs without any additional income.

Accomodation

After participant's confirmation of participation in the course, university authorities will support you in finding a room or apartment.
